IT Park is opening a gateway for Malaysian IT companies to enter the Uzbekistan market

The delegation from IT Park, headed by the Director of the Sirdaryo branch and the Advisor to the Regional Governor on Digitization, Oybek Anvarov, undertook a working visit to Malaysia from February 25 to 29.

The primary objective of the visit was to attract Malaysian IT and BPO companies to Uzbekistan, foster collaboration, and position the country as a burgeoning center for IT outsourcing.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with representatives of prominent Malaysian IT companies, including Upstream, Canaan Communication & Technologies, and Hitech Geo Digital.

During these meetings, the delegation showcased the opportunities and favorable conditions available in Uzbekistan for conducting IT business, including tax incentives and preferences, support programs from IT Park, and the establishment of the International Digital Technology Center — “Enterprise Uzbekistan”.

Following the discussions, an agreement was reached to inaugurate a branch of Upstream in the Sirdaryo region in March of the current year, through the Zero Risk program. This strategic move is poised to generate new high-income employment opportunities in the region and bolster the countryʼs IT service exports to $5 billion by 2030.

Canaan Communication & Technologies and Hitech Geo Digital companies have also expressed interest in establishing their representations in Uzbekistan.

All companies have received invitations to the Offshore Outsourcing Tour, scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan from March 18th to 20th. This event will serve as a platform for fostering collaboration and partnerships within the IT and outsourcing sectors.

Furthermore, the delegation held discussions with the Vice Chancellor of the Malaysian UCSI University, a prestigious institution ranked among the top 300 universities worldwide. Among the key topics deliberated was the proposal to establish a branch of the UCSI Universityʼs Faculty of Information Technology in the Sirdaryo region. This initiative aims to make a significant contribution to the regionʼs digital economy. The universityʼs leadership expressed readiness for comprehensive cooperation with IT Park.

Given that 2024 has been declared the Year of Youth and Business Support in Uzbekistan, the delegation also conducted an informal meeting with young Uzbek students pursuing IT disciplines at UCSI University in Malaysia.

During the gathering, students expressed their views and presented pertinent initiatives focused on cultivating a conducive environment within Uzbekistanʼs IT sector. They were afforded the opportunity to pose inquiries of interest and showcase their projects.
