IT Park welcomes a Nobel Prize winner, Dan Shechtman

Today, on November 7, 2019, the official meeting with 2011 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry for “discovery of quasicrystals”, Dan Shechtman, a professor at the Technion, a leading Israeli Technology University, who has come to Tashkent upon the invitation of the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan, has been held in IT Park.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Israel to Uzbekistan Eduard Shapira, Deputy Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan Azimjon Nazarov, IT Park CEO Farkhod Ibragimov, a delegation of the Embassy of the State of Israel, representatives of the Ministry of Innovative Development, as well as IT Park startup teams have attended the meeting.


Mr. Eduard Shapira noted the innovative potential of Uzbekistan, the strengthened state support shown by the government to IT sector development, the attraction of a large number of foreign specialists, and emphasized the main purpose of this visit which is to increase mutual cooperation between Uzbekistan and Israel in the IT industry.


IT Park representatives, in their turn, spoke about many foreign entrepreneurs’ interest toward   Uzbekistan start-up market, attracted investments, ongoing projects being carried out together with foreign partners. One of IT Park goals, namely, supporting local IT professionals and entrepreneurs to expand the area of ​​their activity from the local market to the global scale, is particularly stressed in their speech.

Prof. Dan Shechtman talked in more detail about his activities and ways of commercializing scientific designs, and also invited IT Park representatives to participate in Israeli national IT competitions to increase networking between IT establishments.


At an event, IT Park startup team had a chance to present their projects to Prof. Dan Shechtman and ask their questions.
