On October 26, as part of ICTWEEK UZBEKISTAN 2023, IT Park, in collaboration with Korean partners KOICA, NIPA, UNIDO ITPO Korea, and KOIIA, organized the inaugural “Uzbekistan-Korea ICT Business Partnership” forum.
The event attracted more than twenty Korean IT companies and provided a unique opportunity for local IT companies to establish contacts and initiate joint projects with their Korean counterparts.
The main speakers at the event included Mr. Maeng-Ho Shin, Director of UNIDO Korea, and Ms. Yangjin Kim, Director of the International Cooperation Center at Gyeongbuk Technopark.
Participants discussed the crucial role of the ICT sector in the process of globalization and the outcomes of collaborative efforts in the fields of innovation and economic growth. Additionally, James Yung, the Founder and CEO of “beSUCCESS Media Group”, delivered a presentation on “How Uzbek companies can attract Korean investments and collaborate with major Korean corporations.” He highlighted that Uzbek startups can easily enter the Korean market.
“We are impressed by Uzbekistanʼs talent pool — a young, creative, educated youth proficient in multiple languages.
I am convinced that Uzbekistanʼs ecosystem holds significant potential for further development. Educational programs and business support initiatives are being successfully implemented here. From the perspective of international investors, I believe there are ample opportunities for investing in promising early-stage companies here.
Regarding collaboration between Uzbekistan and Korea, I think the best approach is to initiate cooperation and establish connections at the governmental level. We should develop partnership programs between governments in more detail to ensure mutual support for entrepreneurs from both countries in their global expansion. Furthermore, investors should visit Uzbekistan more frequently to gain a better understanding of the startup ecosystem. There are numerous programs available for Uzbek startups in Korea. I believe Uzbek startups have the potential to smoothly enter the Korean market and have a chance to secure investments or partnerships with Korean corporations.”
The forum concluded with a series of B2B meetings where local and Korean IT companies discussed the potential for collaboration between Uzbekistan and Korea. They exchanged views on creating a conducive environment for technological progress and fostering interaction to achieve common goals.
