Tashkent Hosted Discussions on Regional Cooperation in Telecommunications and Digital Development

Within the framework of the “M360 GSMA Eurasia 2025” forum — held for the first time in Central Asia — Uzbekistan is hosted the 63rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Communications Administrations of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) and the 31st Meeting of the Coordination Council of the CIS Member-States on Informatization.

The meetings were held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov. The event was attended by senior officials and representatives of the communications administrations of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, and a delegation from Afghanistan participating with observer status.

Minister Sherzod Shermatov, who was first elected Chair of the RCC Council of Heads of Communications Administrations in 2022, has been re-elected to this position for a new three-year term during the current forum. This decision is viewed as a significant and strategic step in advancing Uzbekistan's transformation into a regional IT hub.

The high-level meetings were focused on a range of critical issues, including regional digital integration, the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, information security, and the development of satellite-based communication systems.

Active participants in the discussions also included representatives from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Regional Bureau for CIS Countries, the Executive Committee of the CIS, and the Secretariat of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The event was expected to result in the adoption of a number of strategic decisions aimed at ushering in a new phase of regional cooperation, promoting digital economic development through advanced technologies, establishing equitable roaming policies, and strengthening mechanisms of mutual support at the international level.
