On October 25th, at the Central Asian Expo (CAEx) exhibition center, the official opening ceremony of the Information and Communication Technology Week, ICTWEEK UZBEKISTAN 2023, took place.
ICTWEEK UZBEKISTAN is organized with the aim of further stimulating the development of information and communication technologies, showcasing achievements, opportunities, advantages, and discussing practical results and development trends in the ICT sector.
The event was attended by Rustam Karimjonov, Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies, representatives of IT Park resident companies, foreign guests, experts, foreign media, and others.
The opening ceremony commenced with a speech by Rustam Karimjonov, who highlighted Uzbekistanʼs advantages as an IT destination for foreign investors.
In his presentation, he particularly emphasized the rich reserve of qualified specialists: nearly two-thirds of the countryʼs 36-million population are youth under the age of 30 with high levels of literacy and proficiency in foreign languages.
He also discussed the primary goal set for Uzbekistanʼs IT sector — transforming the country into a regional IT hub and increasing the IT service exports to $5 billion annually.
Later on, Suy Hai, the CEO of Huawei Digital Power in the Eurasia region, delivered a presentation on the work done in the field of IT education and the companyʼs future plans in Uzbekistan.
The President of the Marketing Department at Cloud Core, a Huawei company, Mr. Orpheus Louis, delivered a speech on the topic “Embracing the Future Network: Striding towards the Intelligent World.”
Following his address, the floor was given to Ms. Sine Amidi, the manager of Plug and Play in the EMEA region, who emphasized the importance of creating a startup ecosystem in the modern world and expressed great confidence in the development of this sector in Uzbekistan.
During the event, Mr. Farrukh Makhkamov, Deputy Chairman of the Board at Aloqabank, shared information about special cards created for students in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation and ATTO.
Itʼs worth noting that ICTWEEK has been held annually since 2004 and is the most significant event in the field of ICT in Uzbekistan. This year, within the framework of ICTWEEK, various events will take place, including the Uzbekistan Outsourcing Forum, the Empowering Women in IT: Leading the Digital Revolution summit, the IT Education Forum, ICT EXPO-2023, as well as a job and education fair as part of ICT EXPO, a forum on the “Future of Artificial Intelligence and Global Integration,” and others.
