Currently, the Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Shermatov, Deputy Minister of Public Education Rustam Karimjanov and the Director of IT Park Farhod Ibragimov are on a working trip to the United States.
The purpose of the visit is to expand cooperation with leading companies in the field of ICT, further develop cooperation, as well as implement the instructions of the head of state to turn Uzbekistan into a regional IT-hub.
On the first day of the trip, Minister Sherzod Shermatov, Deputy Minister of Public Education Rustam Karimjanov and Farhod Ibragimov met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Head of Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Mr. Liu Zhenmin.
During the conversation, Liu Zhenmin noted the high level of work aimed at developing the ICT sector in Uzbekistan, as well as the large-scale positive changes taking place under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He stressed that the balanced policy pursued by the country's leadership made it possible to improve the quality of public services in the country, strengthen human capital in the field of ICT and pay special attention to development of telecommunications infrastructure.
It was also noted that Uzbekistan occupies high places in a number of world rankings, and as a result of further work, the country will become a major IT-hub in the region.
In turn, Sherzod Shermatov noted the work done by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, which allowed Uzbekistan to take a high place in the e-Government Development Index, which is published every two years.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.
