Ambassador of Canada got acquainted with the activities of IT Park

On November 9, 2022, Alison Le Claire, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation and Armenia, and Commercial Director Elena Kucheryaeva visited IT Park.

The guests were welcomed by Kamola Sobirova, Advisor to the Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of IT Park.

During the meeting, the activities of IT Park were presented.  In particular, foreign guests were told about the potential of the Uzbek market in the field of IT and BPO, as well as the reforms carried out in the country in recent years, which made it possible to significantly develop the industry.

The participants in the dialogue discussed the possibility of creating an association that will allow members of the business community to coordinate joint efforts and create comfortable working conditions for all participants.

Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the development and implementation of energy-efficient, resource-saving and environmentally friendly green technologies. As noted by the parties, eco-friendly IT initiatives can help reduce costs where smart technologies are used, and recycled materials can contribute to the development of a circular economy.

In addition, the parties focused on the topic of women in IT.  Thus, the panellists stressed the importance of expanding the presence of women in the industry.  In particular, Ms. Le Claire mentioned that a few decades ago, it was difficult for women in Canada to engage in certain types of work, since a number of professions were traditionally considered male.  However, thanks to the right policies, laws and reforms, the borders were erased, and now the stereotypes are fading into the background.

Ms. Le Claire expressed her gratitude for the activities of IT Park in attracting girls to the field of ICT. The parties agreed that in the future they will consider the possibility of joint work aimed at expanding the number of women in the STEM sector.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed on close cooperation in attracting interested Canadian IT companies to the Uzbek market and the entry of IT Park residents to the Canadian market to scale up activities and attract large IT-orders.
