We – yes!
Therefore, IT Park with the support of USAID's Future Growth Initiative launches the Tumaris Tech project aimed to support women's technological entrepreneurship in the IT sphere of the country, in which women will receive support in the development of their start-up projects. Specifically, projects will go through free incubation and acceleration programs and acquire skills for further development.
The project aims to increase the involvement of women in the ICT ecosystem: from developing BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) by providing education for women who want to work as freelancers, to developing startups and investment training.
It is indispensable for Uzbekistan because at the moment there is a rather severe problem of gender inequality, which is also manifested in the existence of a very narrow layer of women working in IT in all areas.
The project has several key components; one of them is the following:
Support for women's start-ups. In this case, a 'women's start-up' is defined as a start-up where at least half of the founders are women, and at least 60% of the team are women. This component is aimed at women who are already ready to start their own business and are at the idea/pre-seed stage. Within this component, projects will go through incubation and acceleration.
It is also intended to use the Institute of tracking/mentoring. For every two projects, one tracker/mentor will be identified, who will lead and support the team, give the necessary advice, comments, and so on.
And most importantly, is the fact that the most successful ideas can get funding, and some of the participants will be trained to continue to invest on their own, thus launching a sustainable mechanism to promote women's entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem in Uzbekistan.
Besides, it is planned to attract additional partners for non – material support-from the OSCE to the women's Committee.
