Global Entrepreneurship Week “GEW 2020” comes to end in Tashkent

From 23 to 28 November 2020, Uzbekistan hosted the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW 2020). The theme of the week was “Entrepreneurial Education - from Idea to Implementation”.

The main theme of GEW 2020 was the organization, promotion and ways of funding startups. The second important topic was the organization of the educational process and entrepreneurship during the pandemic.

For the first time in the history, the main events of the week were held online due to the pandemic. During the week, about 40 webinars and presentations were conducted by the experts from Uzbekistan, Russia, India, Israel, USA, Great Britain, Japan, Germany and other countries.

Among the organizations that took part in the Global Entrepreneurship Week were organizations such as: London Metropolitan University, American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC), GIZ, UN, Trusted Corporation (Japan), Holon Institute of Technology (Israel). Furthermore, many universities and business associations in Uzbekistan also actively participated in the sessions which were conducted within the framework of GEW 2020.

Webinars, master classes and panel discussions held by IT Park during the Global Entrepreneurship Week:

- “Online education: what awaits the market in 2021?”;
- “Where to go with a startup idea and how to turn it into a working business?”;
- “Prospects of business development in the field of education in Uzbekistan”;
- “Master class on networking or where to find useful connections for your startup?”;
- “Retention of your company's staff during COVID-19”;
- “Development of technological entrepreneurship during the pandemic”;
- "Prospects of incubation centers at universities."

The events were organized jointly with the universities of Tashkent such as Amity University in Tashkent, Turin Polytechnic University, Westminster International University in Tashkent, Webster, MDIST, Tashkent State University of Economics and Tashkent Financial Institute.

It must be noted that The Global Entrepreneurship Week was held under the auspices the Global Entrepreneurship Network, an international organization headquartered in Washington D.C., USA and is operated simultaneously in 180 countries.

At the end of the week, after the announcement of the results, recommendations were presented to both government organizations and the business community.

It is also worth noting that at the beginning of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, a vote was launched, within which it was possible to vote for one of the startups that received the investment. According to the voting results, “Achievement Unlocked” nomination was given to the startup BILLZ.

It should be pointed out that, the BILLZ startup was created to help outlets achieve maximum efficiency, save time and money, simplify day-to-day processes with the help of technology, customer management tools as well as smart analytics, which enable them to stay on top.
