Since 2012, the WSIS Prizes is hosted as part of WSIS with the participation of UN agencies and international organizations - UNECE, UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO. WSIS Prizes is an annual contest marking achievements of countries, cities and regions that have established IT-services of social significance. The contest pursues the goal of identifying successful international experience for its subsequent implementation in all sectors.
WSIS Prizes is awarded in 18 nominations for outstanding projects that mobilize the potential of ICT to accelerate socio-economic development worldwide.
IT Park won in the «Capacity building» nomination for the implementation of the Tumaris.Tech project.
Tumaris.Tech is one of the major projects implemented by IT Park Uzbekistan in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project was launched in July 2020.
For reference: There’s a reason behind the chosen name for this project: it was named after queen Tumaris (in some editions Tomiris), who became a symbol of victory, freedom and strength of the Sak-Massaget army, who ruled in parts of modern-day Uzbekistan. Tumaris fought all her youth for the right to lead the Massagets, and she proved it with her boldness, courage and devotion to her people.
The Tumaris.Tech program provides comprehensive support to women's entrepreneurial initiatives. The project consists of several components and aims increasing the involvement of women in the ICT ecosystem: starting from the development of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) through access to education for women willing to work as freelance, to the development of startups and investment courses.
Within just two years of its implementation, the project achieved results by developing into 30 startups, and over 200 girls could gain knowledge in IT. At present, the project is expanding across the Central Asia, where representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will also be able to take part in Tumaris.Tech programs. At this stage the project is supported by Digital Operator Beeline Uzbekistan, TBC Bank and women’s community «Wonder Women». The Tumaris.Tech project is implemented by united team of IT Park : Filippova Anastasia (project coordinator), Salavatova Elvira (general project manager), Musurmankulova Madina (project manager), Khalibayeva Jamilya (PR support), Atabayeva Zaynab (assistant).
