Language is not a barrier: One Million Uzbek Coders is also available in Uzbek!

2020 was declared the year of the development of science, education, and the digital economy. This year, a large number of different projects are actively created to train vital personnel in the field of IT and popularize this field among the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

To fulfill the tasks set and provide the general population with the opportunity to learn popular skills in the field of information technology for free, the Ministry for the development of information technologies and communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan, IT Park, and the IT Academy, in cooperation with the Dubai Future Foundation, are implementing the project "One million programmers" based on Udacity courses.

The Uzbek language has not been spared from this project; it has well integrated into the life of the platform and has become an integral part of it. Thanks to joint efforts, the platform's courses uzbekcoders.uz is available in Uzbek.

About the Udacity platform

UDACITY (USA) is a leading online learning platform focused on IT specializations. Training programs and course content are developed in collaboration with leading IT companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Autodesk, and others. All courses are focused on developing practical skills in working with projects based on real data sets.

About the One Million Uzbek Coders project

"Implementation of the One Million Uzbek Coders project will allow involving wide layers of the population in the development of new professions in ICT jobs for young people, including people with disabilities," — said Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, at the launch of the project on 21 November 2019.

The One Million Uzbek Coders initiative is aimed at developing local IT education, thereby providing the population of Uzbekistan with affordable and high-quality training in IT specialties not only in English but also in Uzbek. The goal of the project is to nurture a generation of IT specialists, arming them with all the tools necessary for further professional work in the field of information technology.

The One Million Uzbek Coders (OMUC) project includes four areas: Android development (in partnership with Google), Front-end development, Full-stack development, and data analysis. Each track starts with a basic 120-hour or 12-week course and does not require specific knowledge to start training. All you need to know is Uzbek or English.

Moreover, within the framework of the national project, One Million Uzbek Coders, a competition was organized among active participants. The game was held this summer and was organized by the Dubai Future Foundation with the support of the IT Park and the IT Academy. More than 12,000 people from all regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the competition. Virtual community https://community.uzbekcoders.uz publishes more than 3,000 author's articles in the Uzbek language. Two groups attended the game with categories of school age up to 18 years and a general class.

The competition conditions were to create original articles in Uzbek related to the success story of the project or to translate articles on IT and new technologies. At the end of the contest, the top three contestants received prizes of $ 1,500. The three best school participants received $ 500 each.

On the portaOnzbekcoders.uz, more than 69,003 students were registered, of which 5,810 passed the second stage and received certificates of successful completion of courses. These numbers are growing every day. Without the Uzbek language on the platform, it would be tough to recruit many such people interested in programming today. Thus, we can conclude that the Uzbek language was, is, and will remain an irreplaceable part of any other language not only for the entire Uzbek IT community but also for the society of Uzbekistan as a whole.
