One million Uzbek Coders: finalists determined

On June 10, Tashkent hosted the grand awards ceremony of ‘One Million Uzbek Coders’ (OMUC), the joint project between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates.

The event brought together the officials, Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov, Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov, CEO of IT Park Farhod Ibragimov, as well as the participants and winners in the nominations of ‘One Million Uzbek Coders’ project.

The OMUC project is a free online platform that was launched in order to teach the public how to code and work with digital technologies. The platform covers the four core areas: Data analysis, Android software development, front-end and full-stack development.

Out of 2,503,060 students who registered for One Million Uzbek Coders program:

• 1,557,977 received participation certificates,

• 1,175,933 received certificates of completion.

90% of the total number of participants are schoolchildren, 47% are girls.

The ceremony featured video clips about the results reached within the last three years as part of OMUC project and the graduates’ success-stories.

The categories of an award ceremony:

‘The best region’ category – Khorezm region;

•‘The Best University’ category – Tashkent University of Information Technologies;

•‘The best school’ category – School N 9., Kashkadarya region;

• The Best Mentor’ category – Bobomurod Toshboev;

•‘The best student’ category – Farrukh Saliev;

•‘The most active family’ category – Kholovs family.

For reference: in 2021 One Million Uzbek Coders project in partnership with the United Arab Emirates hosted 3 competitions: sports programming, «Open Challenge Data Coders» and «Students Cup» for graduates with $100,000 prize fund.

Along with that, the project also hosted an online contest for active participants of the project with $6,000 prize fund that brought together 12,000 people. In 2021, 100 best computer science teachers of secondary schools who have completed courses as part of the One Million Uzbek Coders project were awarded. This competition has taken place this year as well.

Seven qualifying rounds that were organized as part of One Million Uzbek Coders project determined 250 grant-holders of ‘Nanodegree’ in IT education.
