On February 7, 2022, the Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov took part in the opening of an IT-texnikum, where the IT Park branch in Nukus will be temporarily located.
During the visit, the Minister got acquainted with the activities that will be carried out in this branch, and also held an informal dialogue with the founders of local startups and students of IT-Centers.
The main activities of the branch will be:
- development of IT-education;
- development of a startup ecosystem;
- support for IT-companies;
- development of venture investments;
- cooperation with foreign organizations.
It is also worth emphasizing that to date, 3 IT-companies have already been registered in the Nukus branch of IT Park. The total turnover of the products developed by them is 875.5 million soums.
In addition, in March of this year, it is planned to create a BPO-company in Nukus. This company will create 50 jobs. By the end of 2022, the BPO-company plans to realize an export volume of $150,000.
Opening of IT Park incubation center
The minister also took part in the opening of the IT Park incubation center at the Nukus branch of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The event was also attended by the head of the region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Timur Bayekeyev, the rector of the Nukus branch of TUIT Batirbek Kayipbergenov and the director of the IT Park branch in the Republic of Karakalpakstan Madiyar Elmuratov.
The incubation center will include a robotics room, a practice room, a room for educational games, etc.
University students held a presentation of developments at the incubation center, where they received recommendations on their implementation into full-fledged projects, the establishment of their production and export. To date, students are undergoing an incubation program at this university.
Participants of the incubation program receive:
- mentoring assistance;
- seminars by experts in the field of entrepreneurship and IT;
- competitions;
- preparation for the presentation to attract investors.
We emphasize that active work was also organized in the Republic of Karakalpakstan to develop a startup ecosystem. In particular, more than 60 startups and innovative projects have been registered, and more than 50 events have been organized. The events included: hackathons, ideatons, events within the framework of the One Million Uzbek Coders project, webinars, seminars, master classes, forums and workshops. As a result of the measures taken, work is underway to finance and implement 8 start-up projects.
In addition, active work is underway in the Republic to develop affordable IT-education for the general population. In particular, in all 17 cities and districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, namely in: Nukus, Amudarya, Beruni, Buzatov, as well as in Kegaily, Ganlikul, Kangirat, Karauzak, Muynak, Nukus, Takhakupir, Chimboy, Takhiatash, Turtkul, Khodjayli, Shumanai and Ellikkal districts created IT-Centers.
In 2021, 3,255 students studied at these IT-Centers in the following areas: basics of programming, computer literacy, robotics, web and mobile application development, computer graphics, innovative entrepreneurship in information technology, IT-English and IT-architecture.
Also, in 2021, in order to provide assistance to citizens included in the Iron Notebook, the Women's Book and the Youth Book, 456 residents received free training in the Computer Literacy course at the IT-Centers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
