Uzbekistan and the UK: new prospects of cooperation

On February 7, British delegation led by the Director of the Ministry of International Trade, His Excellency Mr. Laurie Moorhead visited IT Park Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the partnership between Uzbekistan and the UK in IT and educational training.

The guests were welcomed by COO Abdulahad Kuchkarov, CEO of IT Park University Bohodir Ayupov, Head of International Relations Nigora Mirdzhalilova and International Relations Manager Dildora Nasibullayeva.

During the meeting, the British delegation learned about the primary pursuits of IT Park. Foreign guests noted how fast BPO is developing in Uzbekistan. In particular, they appreciated the support of the government and IT Park to foreign companies wishing to open a one-stop-shop office, where an IT Park employee registers a company on a turnkey basis. Representatives of IT Park emphasized the importance of partnership with the UK, since the company is researching the IT and BPO market of the UK, the EU, South Korea and Japan to attract outsource orders from companies in these countries.

Foreign colleagues were interested in the development of FinTech and cybersecurity in Uzbekistan. The COO Abdulahad Kuchkarov spoke about investments in FinTech companies by Aloqabank, a partner of IT Park and Universal bank. On the part of the UK, it was proposed to consider cooperation between FinTech companies in the UK and IT Park residents.

In addition, Bokhodir Ayupov, CEO of IT Park University, suggested considering cooperation with UK universities. In particular, he mentioned the possibility of a joint internship program for ITPU students in UK universities on the “Work and Travel” basis, common in the USA, and invited British professors and experts as a guest lecturer for a joint bootcamp for ITPU students.

Summing up the meeting, His Excellency Laurie Moorehead noted the trust that was established at the meeting and the importance of further constructive dialogue to strengthen the partnership, and invited Uzbek colleagues to take part in events such as UK Fintech Week and British Educational Training and Technology Show.
