Uzbekistan entered the shortlist of contenders for the GSMA Award!
The GSMA Government Leadership Award – an annual award given to one government that has implemented advanced digital policy and regulation in the telecommunications industry. The countries that have shown positive trends in the development of the communications market through support for the principles of transparency, competition and regulatory independence are contending for the award in this category.
The 2023 shortlist includes the governments of India, Jordan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan and Zambia. The winner will be awarded at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be held from February 27 to March 3 in Barcelona, Spain. This year, the awards will take place during a session titled “Leadership for future connectivity” (from 14:30 to 15:45 CET).
It should be noted that over the past few years, Uzbekistan has made great strides, striving to become a leader in the field of digital technologies in the CIS region. At the end of 2020, the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 program was launched in the country, aimed at providing high-quality and inexpensive Internet and mobile communication services, reducing the digital divide between cities and villages.
Within the framework of the program, all mandatory payments are made through the provided online payment services. More than 400 information systems, electronic services and other software products in various areas of socio-economic development are also performed automatically.
Additionally, Uzbekistan was the first among the CIS countries to provide spectrum for 5G. A total of 300 MHz has been allocated to three mobile operators in the 3.5 GHz band, giving each of them 100 MHz of medium frequency band.
