IT Park, together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the support of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications Development of Uzbekistan, launched IT Women — Karakalpakstan, an ICT training program for women and girls living in Karakalpakstan’s rural areas.
The pilot program provides training for women in basic ICT skills, which will enable them to find employment or entrepreneurship in the future. Apart from academic support, program participants will get mentoring support.
As part of the project, 60 women and girls receive free training organized by the IT Academy in Nukus with the support of IT Park. Of these, 30 women are enrolled in graphic design courses and 30 in SMM.
This initiative is part of a comprehensive USAID program to empower women affected by climate change by providing them with business skills and job training, access to microcredit, as well as internships, employment, and mentoring.
As USAID Uzbekistan Mission Director Michaela Meredith noted, by developing their digital and entrepreneurial skills, women will be able to engage in e-commerce, sell goods through global and local platforms, use social networks to promote their business, and also gain access to other opportunities. This economic empowerment of women is key to achieving gender equality, improving living standards and achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
